Moving is mostly about doing the right things in the right order. Here is the order.

Your Move, Week by Week

6–8 Weeks Before
4–6 Weeks Before
From Dave: Ask me for a referral. I keep a vetted list of local movers, packers, and cleaners across the Fox Valley.
3–4 Weeks Before
2 Weeks Before
From Dave: If the kitchen or breakables feel overwhelming, many local movers offer partial “kitchen-only” or “fragile-only” packing. I am happy to point you to one.
1 Week Before
2–3 Days Before
Moving Day

Labeling System

Green — Kitchen
Blue — Master Bedroom
Red — Living Room
Yellow — Kids’ Rooms
Purple — Bathroom
Orange — Garage / Storage
Pink — Office
Label each box with: the room destination in large letters, general contents, a box number for your inventory, and “Fragile” or “This side up” if needed.
Pro tip: Label boxes on the top and the sides, so you can read them when the boxes are stacked.

Packing Tips Worth Remembering

Heavy items in small boxes — books, tools, canned goods
Light items in large boxes — linens, pillows, lampshades
Pack heavier items at the bottom — lighter items on top
No box over 50 pounds — if you cannot lift it comfortably, it is too heavy
Fill empty spaces — to prevent shifting in transit
Photograph electronics — before you disconnect them
Pack plates vertically — on edge, like records, with padding between
Use suitcases for heavy items — they are built to roll the weight
Do not empty drawers of light items — secure them with stretch wrap
Keep cleaning supplies separate — for the final clean
How We Help

Your move is more than moving day

Trusted local referrals

Vetted movers, packers, cleaners, and handymen across Aurora, Naperville, Geneva, Batavia, Yorkville, and the surrounding Fox Valley communities.

Timeline coordination

When you are buying and selling at once, the dates have to line up. I help coordinate closings, possession, and move-out so the two ends of your move connect.

Downsizing & aging-in-place

For a move involving a parent or a long-time family home, my wife Laura is a licensed occupational therapist. We bring real care to making the next home safe and livable.

A steady point of contact

Questions come up before, during, and after a move. I am here for all of it — not just the day we sign.

We see the need because we know the need.

Whether you are early in planning or a week from move day, I am happy to help you think it through. One conversation is enough to get started.
